YOUR LEGAL LIFELINE TO JUSTICE

Meet The Attorneys

Bill Livingston is a third-generation lawyer born and raised in Livingston County. He studied Criminal Justice at Michigan State University and following his graduation, immediately pursued his Juris Doctor, being sworn-in to practice law in the State of Michigan in 2014.

With a decade of experience in criminal defense, he understands how a criminal charge can alter a person’s life. Bill has handled hundreds of criminal cases involving charges ranging from misdemeanor Drunk Driving and Domestic Violence to life offenses such as Carjacking, Criminal Sexual Conduct and Homicide.

Katie Livingston was born and raised in Livingston County and still currently resides there with her husband and two children. After graduating from Howell High School, she received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Michigan State University and her Juris Doctor from Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Katie has primarily practiced as a criminal defense attorney since her admission to the Bar in 2016.

Over the course of her career, Katie has successfully handled several hundreds of criminal cases in boththe district and circuit courts. Whether it be simple misdemeanors or serious felonies, Katie understands the importance of protecting her clients’ rights.

Tim Livingston has been a resident of Livingston County since 1981 when he graduated from Cooley Law School and began making a name for himself as a vigorous defender of his clients’ rights. He has a long history in the community as not only a passionate attorney, but also as a committed recreational athlete across various sports including basketball, softball, pickleball, and of course, golf. Tim could not be a prouder father continuing his fourth decade practicing law alongside his two exceptionally intelligent and wonderfully skilled children.

Terry Olson hails from further up north, but settled in mid-Michigan after graduating as a Spartan in 1991 and pursuing his J.D. at Cooley in 1994. He has personally handled well over three thousand felony cases over the course of his career, with a special affinity for trial work. Terry spent several years- long stints in Livingston County working with Jim and Tim. In addition to his dedication to the law, Terry is an avid reader and also a published novelist. He resides in Ingham County close to his two daughters, and you will likely find him gardening in whatever warm months the climate allows. Terry mentored Bill and Katie Livingston both in and out of the courtroom in their early careers. His pride rivals that of their dad, Tim’s, at the brilliant attorneys they have become.

Jim Buttrey has been synonymous with public defense in Livingston County for over forty years, being the Lead Public Defender, for roughly half that time. He has been the attorney-of-record in some 10,000 cases, and considers it his honor. Having known Tim since before the births of his children, to say he feels embedded in the family is an understatement. Jim is married to the love of his life, Jeanette, a longtime professor at Cooley Law School. They consider each other’s company life’s greatest pleasure. Having employed Bill and Katie for close to a decade, he knows better than most at how hard they fight for each of their clients.
